LandformsGobi DesertTo start off with, Gobi Desert literally means water-less place, which is true because it is very dry. The desert is around 500,000 square miles in size, and is still growing due to desertification. Along with size, it is the 5 largest desert in world. The Gobi is mainly made up of plains, so the rest is 5% sand dunes. It's located on a plateau, about 4,000 feet up in the air. It lies North of the Himalayas, so it lies in a rain shadow caused by the mountains. They are mostly populated by Han-Chinese and Mongols.
This landform affects people and other things around it by desertification. Desertification is where a particular part of land becomes very dry and non-nutrient rich. It usually wipes out all sources of water in it's way and in the process. It very seriously affects people, and animals, because both need water to survive and if it keeps spreading, there will be no more. The HimalayasThe Himalayan Mountain Range stretch around a total distance of 1,500 miles long. Its highest point in Mount Everest, and is famous for being known as the highest mountain peak in the world at 29,029 feet. It also contains 9 of the world's top 10 highest mountain peaks, such as K2 at 28,251 feet, Kanchenjunga at 28,169 feet, and Lhotse at 27,940 feet. The mountain range runs through several different countries, like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan. The weather there changes quickly. It could change from warm to cold, and then to hot, quick. This makes the area more likely to have floods, monsoons, landslides, earthquakes, and high winds.
